Pilot Port in Tunisia — Plastic Smart Ports Activities
Tabarka
About Tabarka
Tabarka hosts tourism and gastronomy businesses alongside a traditional fishing community, which is also part of WWF’s Small-Scale Fisheries initiative. Despite a growing nature-oriented tourism sector, fishing is the major source of economic income. The fisheries cooperative contributes to transforming current fishing practices into more sustainable solutions, with a strong motivation to preserve its precious coastal environment.
Implementing Partner
WWF North Africa — As the implementing partner for both Plastic Smart Ports and the Small-Scale Fisheries initiative in Tunisia, WWF North Africa engages stakeholders and is responsible for all local organisation, communication, and pilot activities. WWF NA works with the local fishing communities, organises workshops to identify plastic reduction solutions together with the gastronomy, tourism and fishing sectors, as well as close communication with local and national authorities to foster longterm implementation.
