About Mordoğan

Mordoğan is an artisanal fisheries hub and quieter tourist location in the wider İzmir region. The town’s harbour serves as a base for small-scale fishing operations and is a growing destination for coastal tourism, with restaurants, cafés and accommodation businesses relying on the area’s natural beauty and marine resources. In addition to Plastic Smart Ports, the fishing communities is also part of WWF’s Small-Scale Fisheries initiative.

Implementing Partner

WWF Türkiye — As implementing partner, WWF Türkiye coordinates local stakeholder engagement, conducts workshops with fishers and tourism operators, and supports the development and testing of plastic reduction and waste management solutions.

Our Approach — What We Are Doing

Tourism & Gastronomy

Reuse systems, compostable packaging, staff training and improved waste separation for recycling.

Fisheries

Trials with reuse fishboxes, gear marking and bio degradable netting, ghost gear retrieval and end-of-life gear recycling.

Communication

Workshops with business owners and staff working in gastronomy, tour operators and fishers, awareness materials, flyers for visitors and information campaigns for stakeholders.
